Hello dear readers!
A number of people have told me they intend to submit Grown Men Cry Out at Night to their book club. I’m certainly thrilled that readers have found the book compelling enough to want to share it with their friends. So, to help encourage discussion, I’ve decided to come up with a list of book club questions that can be used to discuss the book.
The list I am providing today comes from Bookclub.com and it is a general list designed to stimulate engaging conversation and discussion about almost any book. I’m working on a very specific set of questions that will cover each chapter of Grown Men Cry Out at Night and I’ll publish them in part 2 of this post.
I hope these questions will promote a lively discussion at your next book club meeting!
- Did you find the author’s style easy or hard to read? How long did it take you to “get into” the book?
- Who was your favorite character, and why? What character did you identify with most, and why? Were there any characters you disliked, and why?
- Did any part of the book strike a particular emotion with you? Which part, and what emotion did it make you feel?
- Was there any part of the plot or were there characters that frustrated or upset you? If so, why?
- How thought provoking did you find this book? Did you learn something new from it? If so, what?
- From your point of view, what were the central themes of the book? How well did the author explore those themes?
- Can you compare this book to other books you have read covering similar themes? How are they the same or different?
- How would you adapt this book into a film or television series? Who would you cast in the leading roles?
- Would you recommend this book to someone? Why or why not (and with what caveats)? What kind of reader would most enjoy this book?
- Rate this book on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest. Why did you give the book the rating you did? Did any part of this book club discussion change your rating from what it would have been directly after finishing the book?
